CRDB Bank, a major stakeholder in the development of the health sector in Tanzania, has made significant contributions towards improving maternal and child health services and specialist services. The bank has achieved this through its Community Investment Policy (CSI Policy), which directs the bank to set aside one percent of its profits every year to solve challenges in the health sector, education, environment, and empowerment for women and youth.

In 2020, CRDB Bank initiated a charity race named CRDB Bank Marathon with the aim of helping the community by involving various stakeholders. The race was held in 2021, and, through collaboration with its partners, the bank was able to collect approximately 500 million Tanzanian shillings. Out of the funds collected, 102 million shillings were allocated to finance the construction of a modern communication center at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Dar es Salaam. The center is the first of its kind in the country and will facilitate the delivery of cancer services, education, and advice to Tanzanians.

The modern facility, built with the funds raised through the CRDB Bank Marathon, was handed over to the leadership of the Ocean Road Cancer Institute in the presence of the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Amos Makalla. The event was preceded by a charity walk led by the Governor of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Amos Makalla, held in celebration of World Cancer Day. The walk aimed to raise awareness about cancer and emphasized the importance of regular cancer screening for early detection and treatment.

The construction of the communication center is a significant contribution to the fight against cancer in Tanzania, and the Executive Director of the Ocean Road Institute, Dr. Julius Mwaiselage, expressed gratitude towards the CRDB Bank for supporting the construction of the center. He acknowledged the bank, along with its partners Sanlam, Strategies, and Alliance Insurance, for their contributions towards the initiative.

Hon. Makalla congratulated the CRDB Bank and its partners for successfully building the center as promised, and promised to continue participating in the race as he has done in the last two years. He highlighted that the 6th phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan has allocated sufficient funds to the health sector and is working to ensure that there is a good distribution of health centers at all levels to ensure that citizens from all parts of the country get the best health services.

Apart from the construction of the communication center, the CRDB Bank Marathon race for the year 2021 was able to support the treatment of more than 100 children suffering from heart disease at the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute. In the previous year, through the race, a total of Million Shillings was sent to the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute and the CCBRT Hospital to help women who have high-risk pregnancies.

CRDB Bank's contribution to the health sector in Tanzania is a significant boost to the fight against cancer and other health challenges in the country. The bank's commitment to using its profits to help solve challenges in the health sector, education, environment, and empowerment for women and youth is commendable and sets a good example for other institutions to follow.
