CRDB Bank has been named Tanzania’s Best Bank, Best Bank for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and Best Bank for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) by Euromoney during the prestigious Euromoney Awards for Excellence held in London on 17th July 2025. The triple recognition affirms the Bank’s steadfast commitment to inclusive growth, responsible banking, and sustainable development—values that have defined CRDB Bank’s journey over the last three decades. The accolades were received on behalf of the Bank by Ms. Tully Esther Mwambapa, Managing Director of CRDB Bank Foundation, during a high-level ceremony attended by over 500 banking and finance professionals from across the globe. Ms. Mwambapa was joined by senior officials from CRDB Bank and representatives from the Tanzanian Embassy in the United Kingdom. These honors come just two months after CRDB Bank was also recognized as Tanzania’s Best Islamic Bank through its Shariah-compliant arm, CRDB Al Barakah Banking, during the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards held in Dubai on 20 May 2025. The four accolades highlight the Bank's comprehensive and purpose-driven approach to banking. The Bank has consistently focused on transforming lives by providing access to finance, nurturing sustainable enterprises, and empowering communities. This recognition is particularly important as it coincides with the Bank's ongoing 30th anniversary, during which it celebrates its lasting impact on Tanzania’s economic and social landscape since 1996. Speaking after receiving the awards, Ms. Mwambapa remarked: “This recognition from Euromoney speaks to the heart of our mission—to be a trusted partner in progress for individuals, businesses, and communities. As we mark 30 years of CRDB Bank, these awards reinforce the value of staying true to our purpose: improve livelihoods and deliver sustainable impact.”
CRDB Bank’s recognition as Best Bank for ESG affirms its pioneering role in advancing green finance, social inclusion, and strong governance. The Bank was the first in Tanzania to issue a Green Bond and list it on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE), making it one of the first commercial banks in Sub-Saharan Africa to have a domestically issued green bond admitted to trading on LuxSE. The Bank also remains the only financial institution in the country accredited by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Through initiatives such as the CRDB Bank Foundation and the Imbeju Programme, the Bank has provided meaningful support to women- and youth-led enterprises across the region. The Best Bank for SMEs award reflects the Bank’s efforts to design and deliver tailored financial solutions for small and medium enterprises—seen as the backbone of Tanzania’s economy—while the overall Best Bank in Tanzania title recognises CRDB Bank’s leadership in innovation, digital transformation, and regional expansion. Ms. Tully Esther Mwambapa, Managing Director of CRDB Bank Foundation added: "We are grateful for these recognitions, but our priorities remain the same: to grow, ringfence and future-proof our business while creating meaningful impact. These awards symbolize the trust our customers and shareholders have in us, the visionary leadership of our board and management, and the dedication of every member of the CRDB Bank family." As CRDB Bank continues to expand its footprint across the region and globally—including recent milestones such as establishing its presence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates—the recognition from Euromoney reinforces the Bank’s position not only as a financial institution but also as a catalyst for prosperity.
